Cheaper Places to get Books

As the Spring semester approaches we all have to start thinking about buying course materials again. If you want to save a few dollars on your textbooks this semester, take some advice from me 🙂 The best ways to find books are…

a) Amazon.com is a great place to find cheap books in good shape

b) Chegg.com has book purchases and rentals available

c) Bookstore rentals- cheaper and returnable

d) phone a friend!! They might have a book for sale or even for free

So when you are trying to find books this semester, keep these resources in mind and have a wonderful Spring Semester!!

Getting Into Shape in 2014

Running might be one of the best ways to get into shape beacuse it is a full body execise; As you run your body is using the muscles in your legs, rear, stomach, and shoulders. This unfortunately, is something most people do not realize, getting in shape for some means a gym membership or some intense weight lifting. However, if your goal is to be healthy and fit then running is the best activity you can do.

To train for running start off slowly, do a quater mile one day, take a break and then do a half mile the next. Just increase your run by a small increment every few days. This will slowly build up your lung and heart capacity. As you progress you will also start to notice changes in the way you run or where you are sore afterwards. This is because you are slowly strengthening your legs, abs, butt, and shoulders. Embrace it, its a good thing!!!

You can also increase your fitness with warm up stretches/workouts. All you have to do is a few simple stretches and exercises of your choosing. If used properly you will not be sore after your run. It is also important to do a cool down after a run or your muscles will be sore in regardless. Again, the cool down can be of your choosing based on the intensity of your run.

If you are someone who does not enjoy to run you can easily make it fun. When I run on my personal time I like to listen to a little music and take a few stretching breaks when I start to feel a little bit winded. You can also organize your thoughts while running, ignore them completely, and burn off some stress. There are many studies that show how beneficial exercise can be for the heart as it reduces the stress levels the body experiences from our surrondings and increases the blood flow capacity of the organ.

So in the end all I can emphasis is that you are in control of your own health, therefore, if your resolution for 2014 is to get in shape then please consider this advice and start running 🙂 Have a good year everyone!!!!!!

Share your resolutions and goals with us!

Another Christmas has come and gone, and boy it went fast!!! It seems that the older you get the faster life goes, quite amazing isn’t it? I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, but now its on to the next order of buisness……2014!!

It’s time to start thinking about your resolutions and goals for the new year, so I thought it would be nice for everyone to share 🙂 My goals are…

a) max the physical fitness test

b) graduate from field training

c) go on a road trip

d) get more scholarships!

As you can see, all resolutions must start with a goal in mind. Once you know your goal you can formulate the resolutions that will allow you to achieve your objective. So my resolutions are:

a) workout daily

b) work everyday to prepare for field training

c) save money for a road trip each week

d) research and apply for scholarships every weekend

With this simple guide to help you form your resolutions it will be easy!! Just don’t forget to put in the work, if you really want something you can achieve it!!!! We would love to hear your resolutions and goals so if you want to share please let us know below 🙂

So no matter how you celebrate the new year and remember the old just keep in mind that the new year may be a good time to try new things. Maybe get out of your comfort zone a bit, meet new people, and travel to new places.

FTP Starts Now!!

If you join Air Force ROTC at Embry Riddle and you decide to continue in the program to become an Officer in the Air Force then you will go through Field Training Preparation (FTP) during the spring semester of your sophomore year. FTP, is exactly what it means, training to succeed in field training. It lasts the entire Spring semester and like other Air Force ROTC activities it runs concurrently with your schooling.

The overall goal of both FTP and Field Training is to mold you into an Officer of the United States Air Force. As I am now a sophomore it is my turn to go through FTP and Field Training. I am very excited to see what this new section of Air Force ROTC holds for me and I am also eager to attend Field Training as this will get me one step closer to my dream. I will let our reader’s know from time to time how things are going but, for now, I’m looking forward to the future and its challenges! Wish me luck!!

If you are interested in ROTC at Embry Riddle please click here for more information. Please comment with questions and I will do my best to answer them. Thank you!

After Christmas…

Christmas hasn’t happened yet but, it will soon be here and unfortunately, gone again. So I have some ideas/advice to give about shopping post Christmas. Its just like Black Friday, but sometimes even crazier so be careful when you are out there shopping on December 26!! The best sales are usually found online because all the overstock that wasn’t sold at thanksgiving is now discounted intensively, so definitely check that out.

Also, don’t buy too many Christmas ornaments and such after Christmas when they have all been discounted. The reason is simply this, now it will sit around for an entire year before you can use it again, so there is really no point. Save your money up and get something you need. Additionally, when you go shopping be sure you make a list of things that you would like if you can afford them and a list of things you absolutely need.

First, buy only the things you need. If you have leftover cash you want to spend then get a few items that you wanted from the other list. Organizing your shopping like this will prevent you from buying a bunch of useless junk that you will never use. It also helps you think about your purchases and whether it is really worth the money even though its on a discount.

So just remember that smart shopping is the key, good luck, and happy holidays!!!!! Oh, and stuff at the Embry Riddle online store will most likely be discounted too so get some cool Embry Riddle gear while your shopping!!!!

CATIA Project is Done!!!!

Update on the CATIA MSR Rover project, WE ARE DONE!!!!! It is so exciting to have completed a semester’s worth of work which took us roughly 315 hours to do!! What do you think? We are very proud to say its all done and even better news is that we got an A on the entire project. All in all, this has been a successful semester and I thank our readers for tagging along to hear about it!!

Christmas In the Dorms

The holidays can be a difficult time of year for students but, here at Embry Riddle Prescott we try to keep the spirits up 🙂 Our campus really likes to celebrate so every on campus office decorates and puts up a tree, each dorm decorates with lights and has light show competitions, RA’s host Christmas parties, and so much more!!

This year my room mates and I didn’t get a tree so we drew a massive tree on our white board and placed our presents on the table underneath it. Next to our tree we improvised a fire place and opened our presents by the “fire”. Although it was definitely a college style Christmas it was so much fun!!! Other students went around the hall passing out chocolate covered pretzels and hot cocoa, so we had a wonderful pre Christmas celebration 🙂

No matter where you are going for Christmas or whether you celebrate the holiday or not we welcome you to come join our fun at Embry Riddle. We are a community waiting to share the holidays with you. So come on by for a visit, apply, or give us a call today to hear more about what Embry Riddle can offer you.
