Professionalism

Please Don't Try This One

Please Don’t Try This One

College is that time in life where a lot of people go crazy trying new things and getting certain types of body art that they were not allowed to get before. I am sure many of you have heard cautions against it before however, with the fall semester right around the corner it is time for our new freshman to hear it again!

The piercings and tattoos you get in college need to be either limited or discreet as once you enter the professional world upon graduation they can impact your future. Many companies will not hire if you have inappropriate or easily visible tattoos. (Easily visible means large or eye catching) It is best to place tattoos where they will not be seen when you are wearing business attire.

The same goes for piercings. Ladies you must limit the number of ear and facial piercings you receive as these have a hug impact on your professional image. Sure you can keep that nose piercing while in college but when you graduate say good bye!! Additionally, do not get eyebrow piercings. These often require surgery to repair when you decide that you no longer want it and they can ruin a fair number of interviews for you.

With that said, be responsible adults with your body art. What you do everyday will always affect your future. Thanks for reading!!!

Summer Classes Continued

summer-classes

This is the fourth week of summer session A classes which means that its midterm time!! I personally have no idea when my midterm is as the class is going a bit slow but, I find that I am really enjoying Solid Mechanics. The only difficult part so far is Shear and Moment Diagrams. Any advice on those would be appreciated from out readers!!

A lot of other students had their first midterms last week so I really hope that mine will be soon. There is only one midterm for my class whereas some courses have three or four over summer, so the pressure on this one is high! However, I feel like I understand the material well, my professor is awesome 🙂

So I would like to give a shout out to all the summer class takers….you are all extremely brave for diving into a condensed six week class and also to all the summer professors, you guys rock!! Please comment below if you are among us and have a professor that you would like to acknowledge for their excellence. Thanks everyone and good luck on those midterms!!

For those incoming students just chillax a little longer and enjoy your well earned summer of fun!!

It’s High School Grad Time!!

Also, keep checking for emails from out Admissions office and your future professors, don’t forget to register for classes and set up your Ernie account on line so you can access all those courses!! And most importantly of all, have a fun and safe Graduation!!!!!

Embry Riddle Video Series

106_329_5

As some of our future students may know the folks in the admissions office are preparing a video series that will help you get ready for school here at Embry Riddle Prescott in the Fall of 2014. These videos will feature a campus tour, some helpful tips and information that you will need to know when you start school here, introductions to a few faculty and staff, and so much more!!

Please keep watching for emails from the admissions office as new videos will be coming out every few weeks. Don’t miss a single one!! Have a wonderful summer and come prepared for a fun fall semester, we can’t wait to meet everyone!!!

Summer Heat Wave

waveheat

If you have been here in Embry Riddle Prescott in the last few days or you are heading here very soon be prepared for a heat wave!! The best way to handle the heat is to drink lots of ice water and stay in the shade. Try to work out in the early morning or after 8pm at night so you can avoid any heat related illnesses. The other option is to turn your workout into a nice swim at our saltwater pool on campus.

Whatever you choose to do, I hope that Embry Riddle is still apart of your summer plans, so stop on by and visit us today!

What are Your Plans for Next Year?

Its so weird to think that I will be going into my Junior year here at Embry Riddle and taking some of the upper level engineering courses. My year is pretty much all figured out but, what about yours? Do you have plans for college that include Embry Riddle??  I certainly hope so!! If you are a graduating high school senior congratulations!! We hope to see you here in the fall 🙂

If not perhaps you are going to do community college first and then transfer in, we welcome you here too!! It is our hope that Embry Riddle becomes your home away from home in this next year. If we are apart of your plans please comment below and let us know.

Dynamics Project Complete!!

Organized Pendulum Motion

Organized Spring Pendulum Motion

19 pages and countless hours later my dynamics project is done!! I am so happy to be finished with it. Overall, I proved that a spring pendulum system is chaotic but, its motion can still be modeled with dynamics. I used two methods, the second one is the most accurate as it shows the chaos in the motion of the pendulum system. The methods are respectively called simple pendulum motion and rigid body pendulum motion. The difference between the two is that rigid body motion takes more “real time” factors into account such as the mass of the spring, its changing length, inertial centers of masses of each object in the system and so on. the system is actually so complex that you can solve for the general equations of motion but, they are unsolvable by hand. The graphs you see here are numerical solutions to the motion of the pendulum. This concept is huge in terms of Engineering, as engineers must be able to predict and describe chaotic motion due to the affects it has on a structure. Dynamics is a fundamental course designed for students to be exposed to the important methods and concepts before they get into upper level courses.

Chaotic Spring Pendulum Motion

Personally, Dynamics is a hard class however, I find it really fun and educational. I learned so much from my project about how to describe motion through mathematics and numerical integrations. I really look forward to the other classes in which I can apply this knowledge.

So my question to our readers is this: Do you want to go to school at a university that challenges you in a way conducive to learning? I did, and that’s why I came to Embry Riddle Prescott. Stop by some time and join us 🙂
