AFROTC Life

program-fitness

All of our new freshman here at Embry Riddle Prescott who have chosen to participate in AFROTC are settling in to life as a cadet! It is so exciting to see so many new faces and watch them all learn how to be a cadet. It makes me remember my freshman days and how much fun I had getting to know my classmates in Air Force and Engineering.

For those of you who are not sure about whether or not you would like to join AFROTC my advice is to give it a shot! Trust me, everyone is nervous and everyone makes mistakes but, if you stick with it you will learn so much about being in the program. I highly encourage you to ask questions from university officials, recruiters, and current AFROTC college cadets. It would be great to see you here some time in the future.

For more information please visit the AFROTC main page where you can find general information about how the program works, scholarships, and fitness šŸ™‚ Thanks for reading everyone!

Housing

dorm-room

As the start of the new semester approaches the Admissions Office keeps getting phone calls asking about on campus housing early move ins and such. We are more than happy to help with questions and transfer students over to the housing office however, if you would like the direct line to housing it can be found on their website.

Additionally, other extensions and phone numbers can be found on our main website for financial aid and for our other departments. Please feel free to explore the site and call those departments directly to avoid getting transferred between departments.

We look forward to seeing you here on campus in a few days!! Safe travels everyone!!!!

Good Reads

For those of you who like to enjoy a good book once in a while here is one that I am currently reading and really enjoying. Its called “The Silver Star” by Jeannette Walls. It is a fantastic story, not too much dialog but amazing descriptive verbiage and excellent use of the first person view. You actually feel like you are in the main character’s head, experiencing everything as an 11 year old girl in a big mysterious yet narrow world.

I highly recommend checking this book out before the summer ends as once classes start it will become a lot more difficult to balance classes, events, and such with your reading time.Ā  If you have any comments or book suggestions for our readers please let us know by leaving a comment below. As always, have a wonderful day, thanks for reading, and we hope to see you on campus this fall!!

One last thing!!! For those of you incoming ROTC cadets, check out amazon for some books on leadership tips, they are great to have and I personally use them often!!

Professionalism

Please Don't Try This One

Please Don’t Try This One

College is that time in life where a lot of people go crazy trying new things and getting certain types of body art that they were not allowed to get before. I am sure many of you have heard cautions against it before however, with the fall semester right around the corner it is time for our new freshman to hear it again!

The piercings and tattoos you get in college need to be either limited or discreet as once you enter the professional world upon graduation they can impact your future. Many companies will not hire if you have inappropriate or easily visible tattoos. (Easily visible means large or eye catching) It is best to place tattoos where they will not be seen when you are wearing business attire.

The same goes for piercings. Ladies you must limit the number of ear and facial piercings you receive as these have a hug impact on your professional image. Sure you can keep that nose piercing while in college but when you graduate say good bye!! Additionally, do not get eyebrow piercings. These often require surgery to repair when you decide that you no longer want it and they can ruin a fair number of interviews for you.

With that said, be responsible adults with your body art. What you do everyday will always affect your future. Thanks for reading!!!

Galveston

I had the pleasure of getting to see Galveston Texas yesterday!! If you have ever been to Texas you know how awesome it is down there!! I highly suggest going if you are in the area and you get the chance to. The beach is gorgeous and the water is very warm, it is so different from the west coast waters which are very cold even in the summer.

If you get the chance to travel before the summer is over then take the trip down to Texas, it is a wonderful place to visit with so many different places to see and experience. If you have taken a trip this summer please let us know where! You can comment below and add a picture if possible šŸ™‚ We look forward to hearing from you and we will see you in the Fall!!

August is Basically Here!!

moving-boxes12

August 1st is tomorrow and that means that school is just a few short weeks away! For our incoming freshman it is time to start packing up and getting ready to come to Arizona!!! Some packing tips are:

A) roll your clothes to create smaller bundles

B) Use vacuum seal bags to save space

C) Buy the last few items you need (like pain killers, toiletries, laundry stuff, etc) when you arrive

D) Don’t bring too many books or decorations from home as they can take up a lot of space

E) buy your bed sheets when you arrive on campus

Hope these tips help our new freshman, if you have any comments or questions please let us know below!!

Ever Been to the South?

To-the-south

Over the last few weeks I have definitely had some interesting adventures and life lessons learned. One of those lessons is not to judge a place until you actually have been there. I used to think that I would not like anywhere in the South because I am not a hot weather/humidity type of a person. However, when I spent time in the south for my AFROTC training I actually loved it!!

Sure the heat and the humidity made it kind of gross and sweaty all the time but, the area is beautiful! I loved seeing all the trees and greenery every time I went outside. The sunsets and sunrises were also very majestic which totally made my day! I can honestly say that despite the tornado we saw and the heat/humidity, I love the South!

So my advice to you is not to judge a place before you actually visit it! I hope that this encourages you to stop on by our Embry Riddle campus in Prescott Arizona before you make up your mind for sure šŸ™‚ Thanks for reading everyone!

I am Back!

Hello everyone! I recently finished up Field Training and I have progressed to the POC in Air Force ROTC. For those of you who will be joining us at the Prescott campus in ROTC you will definitely see me around. My advice for those of you who will be joining is to have fun but be professional, if you plan to continue in the program it is extremely important to keep that balance.Ā  Additionally, keep in shape and hydrate!!!

We look forward to seeing you in the fall, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to write to us! Have a great day everyone.
